ILSA Brasil opens new factory in Rio Grande do Sul

ILSA Brasil - Filial 01

New plant produces organomineral fertilizers

ILSA Brasil, a company celebrating ten years of operations in the country, started operations this July at its second industrial plant in the city of Portão, in Rio Grande do Sul.

The company, which uses biotechnology in the production of organic and organomineral fertilizers, operates in 49 countries and, with the new plant, brings highly efficient agronomic products to the national market, consolidating its vocation in the area of innovation.

The new unit represented a investment of US$1.4 billion and is expected to generate 40 new jobs.

Capacity of Ilsa Brasil's new factory

The new factory has a covered area of 4900 square meters and will be able to produce 30 thousand tons/year of organomineral fertilizers. “The existing industry produces 22 thousand tons/year of an organic component that is used as raw material in the new plant for the manufacture of unique, state-of-the-art organomineral fertilizers.

In this case, the organic matrix and other mineral raw materials undergo a pelletization process”, explains the Marketing Director of ILSA Brazil, Thiago Stella de Freitas.

With this, ILSA Brasil produces a product that has advantages over the isolated use of organic and mineral fertilizers. The expectation is that most of the production of the new industry will be consumed in the domestic market.

Currently, ILSA Brasil serves around 15 thousand farmers through its commercial partners, in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

New investments

Furthermore, the new investment will attract more job opportunities due to the production volume and technical specialties of the new products.

“We intend to expand our market penetration, which requires more qualified people in the sector,” explains Freitas. According to him, the company already has plans to continue investing in the country, with new factories in other regions.

Italian technology combined with science

The technology applied in the new plant is the same used in ILSA's headquarters in Italy. The organic raw material used by ILSA Brazil is collagen from skins and hides that are transformed into unique, highly efficient fertilizers using our own innovative technologies.

The industrial process is based on science, in line with the principles preached by the company.

The brand carries out several studies alongside educational institutions, such as the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal University of Lavras.

“We have several joint projects, including master's dissertations and doctoral theses supported by ILSA”, explains Thiago, also highlighting the participation of CCGL Tec, a research and development company for cooperatives in Rio Grande do Sul.
